530 Transmission to PTO oil seal

Hello, I have a JD 530 and the pto housing is getting filled with gear lube from the transmission. I looked through the parts book an see that there is an oil seal where the powershaft enters the powershaft housing. Does the entire rockshaft unit need to come off in order to fix this? Or can I get away with just pulling the back of the housing off? Just trying to figure out what parts to order. Thanks,

Jon

Rock shaft housing has to come off, pull PTO pump off front of rock shaft housing and put in back to back seals. Cut the head off two longer bolts and round the ends, install in rear axel housing for line up pins to help with rock shaft housing reattachment, these are heavy parts, need engine hoist, tricky part is getting internal PTO shaft in its splined coupling, turn PTO shaft while installing rock shaft housing. Good luck.

Ok, so I pull the whole unit off at the rockshaft/transmission junction and work from back side? No need to disassemble the pto clutch housing unless there are issues with the clutch discs?

That would be correct.. disconnect the hydraulic lines, I like to remove the battery box/ floor board.
elephant ears & 3 point & drain the trans & hydraulic systems lay it down right behind the tractor blocked
up of coarse. remove the bolts holding the seal housing. check the gears for the pto pump & install new seals.
Wouldn't hurt to check the rear wheel bearings since you are right there. Chance's are you'll need a new rear gasket,
o rings for the hydraulic lines. Make yourself some dummy line up pins for reassembly. Good luck..

Steiner's put out a good video on how to repair a pto clutch, but it they also replaced the seal and it may be helpful to watch it.
