Model A Production Year vs Model Year

Last year, I emailed JD archives for information on my Model A. Per their reply, it was produced and shipped mid November of 47. Per the serial number listing on this site as well as tractor data, my tractor is a 48. Did tractor manufacturers follow the same path as auto manufacturers and a model year would start being built prior to the actual year?

I also am a bit confused as Tractor data says in 1948 the starting serial number is 587349 while this site says 594433. Neither effects my year as my S/N starts with 595.

Up until model year '38 the model year ran from 1 Nov. to 31 Oct.

In model year '38 the year was shortened to 8 months, 1 Nov.'37 to 30 June '38, for the
introduction of the Styled tractors.

From model year '39 up until model year '48 the model year ran from 1 July to 30 June.

In model year '48 the model year was changed back to ending on 1 Nov. so model year '48 was 16
months long, i.e. 1 July '47 to 31 Oct. '48.

Since then the model year has run from 1 Nov. to 31 Oct.
