JD 530 not charging

Borrowing a 530, gauges don't work. The tractor starts hard after a few weeks of sitting. When I put a new battery in it, it starts fine. The tractor runs fine always when it does start. Fires up with a good battery.

Any suggestions to keep a strong, positive charge on the battery? Believe it is positive ground. And it still has the generator and the original electrical setup.

Thanks,

Robert

Even with a stuck or no ammeter, if its charging the battery voltage will rise from 12.6 a full charged at rest battery to at least 13 up to 14 or so volts subject to battery state at fast RPM with a good battery and a good charging system.

My Charging Troubleshooting Procedure linked below will help find the cause of non charging and if its a Genny or a VR or other problem

If it holds a charge if you disconnect the battery but it runs down only if left connected, there may be an electrical drain but if it still discharges quickly even if disconnected the battery may be bad. A shop can load test it for free

Last few days my 630 wasn't charging, tried grounding the f terminal, then polarizing just for fun. Then I moved the arm for the brushes to see if they had tension which they did, must of jarred the brushes loose from there spot, it was charging like no other. Will try it tonite and see if it stills charging.
