hydraulic noise in JD 2550

I have a mid 80's 2550 and have a developed an annoying loud buzzing sound coming from the 3pt rate of drop adjustment knob in the floorboard of the tractor. Doesn't do it when cold or if you raise the 3 pt lever slowly, but if you ever raise the lever fast it starts the buzzing and won't quit. Adjusting the rate of drop knob has no effect. Noise is loud and obnoxious. Any ideas?

With 3 pt raised,engine running look in hyd filler hole behind seat for misting oil with hyd oil at operating temp.

Misting inside is a internal hydraulic line split and leaking, leading to a tractor split to correct.

Hyd oil misting in hyd filler hole indicates rockshaft valve seals leaking &/or scv vales leaking if applicable. RS will require R&R to R&R RS seals.

Hi Jim,

I though that there were internal hyd lines in the manheim tractor that can leak, and that was one of the key reasons that the Waterloo hyd design is thought by many to be superior. Am I all wet here?

Yes utility tractors have internal lines that supply oil to hyd hi-lo,reverser & pto that can leak that tractor must be split. Rowcrop tractors don't have these type lines but have some shorter lines that aren't prone to giving much trouble

The Dubuque and Mannheim tractors for intents and purposes are identical. The Waterloo tractors are the same but different .

I agree all 3 factories the models built for agriculture had same color of green with yellow wheels.
Only thing the same on Mannheim(Dubuque) & Waterloo hyd's with closed center hyd systems is some but not all frt hyd pumps are the same.
