Blown head gasket on a 6404TT

Went to start the beast after not running for 2 years, she was hard to crank. Finally got her running and noticed coolant shooting out of the head gasket behind the water pump. Does any one have any experience working on a 6404TT engine? Is it a big job to replace the head gasket? Any help would be helpful, I'm in a pickle right now. Any potential causes I should look for?

Okay that would be similar to a 4430 engine. They are a nice engine to work on,, I am wondering why it blew?/it was turning over hard, fired up and blew..so I am wondering if it had water on a piston,,and hope it did not bend a rod..Darn it. You can lift the head with manifolds, turbo and injectors of in one chunk, then set it down to where you can work on it better..it will be near like working on a combine engine up high like that..

Tim, when you talk about a bent rod,are you thinking push rod or connecting rod? When it did run I could hear what sounded like a rod knock. I was hoping that just the jasket rotted away, and not a sleeve.

Yes a connecting rod,, I did a 6410 last week that went under water at a bad creek crossing it blew the head gasket and bent one rod..You can get a hint of it when you check on how the pistons deck out, a bent rod will not come up as far as the others..I don't want to wish bad on you but you will need to look at it..

Could be difficult with the head gasket leaking externally. If you can on your engine installation, leave the cooling system intact, drop the sump, pressurize the cooling system and look up, you will see the coolant coming down beside the piston on the bad cylinder.

Engine Over Haul,,replacing the piston and liners, and since your engine is setting on it's oil pan you can not do that with out setting the engine off, which you may as well do from the start..
