JD B pan seat

When did John Deere start to offer the soft square seat on the B and A? I thought it may have been when they went to electric start. I have a 43 B with a pan seat and flywheel start.

No... electric start became an option sometime in 1939. At that point the battery was under the "long hood" which was made longer (towards the operating station). The battery under the seat came about at
serial number 201000 for the B, and 584000 for the A- a little after the start of the '47 model year. At the same time, gasoline engines (as opposed to all-fuel only) became available, the side frames went
from cast to stamped steel, and other changes were made.

Hope that helps.
