Hello, Lots of knowledge on this site. I'm new here retired from being a construction contractor and a year ago started working on/restoring tractors. I own a 1940 Farmall, a 1956 Ford 860 both run. I'm now restoring a John Deere Model D. My question is the serial number tag is stamped 156,--- = 1942. The casting on the left side main case above the part number has a 47 cast in the case as well. I was wondering whats up with that? The serial tag looks to be the original without any lifted edges and same with the attaching rivets. I was told it may have been issued the serial number them pulled off the build line because building equipment for WW2 took priority? Then in 1947 they finished the build? I was even thinking of foul play sometime in its past. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks for your time.
