I'm new in this forum usually I'm in Oliver or pulling .I bought this b and am looking at getting the settings for the carburetor . does anyone know the base setting for the idle and run ?

1 1/2 turns out on both idle and load is a good starting place. No pun intended. If that doesn't work enough to get started, let us know year and what it's doing and maybe someone can help!

Search "setting carb on B" and you'll get a lot of information. The kill-it-dead could be idle jet adjustment, setting of idle screw on butterfly shaft, or incorrect throttle rod adjustment or something else. Welcome to the Other Green! Good luck. Let us know how it comes out.

Was going to download you the proper procedure but it wouldn't , so will write it out. This will also tell you whether it needs re-built or not to be correct. Open load one turn and idle two turns. Start and warm tractor for 5 min. Now , throw open throttle to 3/4 - wide open . Now close load needle. If tractor falters or dies ..it needs re-built. If it stays running with no rpm change, then start closing idle needle 3-4 clicks at a time (1/8 turn) or so. wait 5 seconds or so between and close it another 3 clicks. Keep doing this until even the slightest rpm variation or throttle shaft movement. At that exact moment, quickly open it back up 1/4 turn. Now it's set. Now open load back up one turn open. Now idle tractor back down to slow idle. Now quickly throw throttle lever open...it should accelerate quickly and without spitting /popping, on up to fast idle again. It should puff about two-three dark puffs when doing this. If it spits/pops , open load 1/4 until it does as it's supposed to . Usually 1 - 1 1/2 turns is right for load. You can fine tune it when actually put under load. If the tractor dies when closing idle needle before you can get it opened up, just open 1/4 turn from where it died. All there is to it. Unfortunately , for most carbs, it will die when you close load needle. Yes, you can still hobby around with it but needs re-built to ever be right and idle even . That's why some will say "those ole 2 bangers never did idle right "...they didn't because as long as they started and hauled a load, no one cared so never had carb re-built. I'm just telling you the correct way. If load needle needs to be open to run at fast idle , it's just a "bandaid" to help out a plugged idle circuit and/or worn throttle bushings/shaft/blade or even the bore itself where throttle plate rides. They do NOT use load fuel at fast idle.

thanks very much for the advice , I will apply it shortly . One has to appreciate this site everyone is willing to step right up and help . thanks again

If your B has a mag, the engine is supposed to shut down when you pull the throttle all the way back. Just a hair forward of all the way back will give you slow idle.
