Load control shaft seals

How difficult is it to replace the seals and install new bushings with the new rings in them ? My old JD 4020 had sat 5 years then using it with 7 foot mower a leak started which was bad enough that it drained out all the oil. Also have a JD 2510 that leaks too

I have an 1" shaft cut nice and square on the end, the correct length (which I can't tell you right now) and drive them out with that, there is just a bit of the bushing exposed so the shaft needs to have a good edge on it.The main reason for seal failure is the side to side movement on the the load shaft, you need to keep it shimmed up tight.

There is a person from IN on Ebay who list a great seal kit. It is Deere seals (from something like a 7400) that he machines a holder for. He has both 4020 and ones for your 2510 as well. I think if your shaft is good and you install new bushings with o-rings and use his seals it should last for many many years. Do as Tim says and shim up to remove side to side play. I have used about six sets of this style and am very happy. Tom

if your shaft is shot just stick it back in so shaft is through case and flush or 1/8" sticking out of one bushing and weld the bushing to the shaft then drive it out, cut off shaft by bushing and repeat for the other bushing. much easier than trying to keep shaft on the lip of the bushing and trying to drive it out that way.
