Last of the Two-Cylinder Era Decals

I just talked to a well known decal manufacturer about the 20 and 30 Series tractor decals and now I am scratching my head. I thought they ALL had a big yellow decal that went across the sides of the hood and grille. If the tractor is original, usually those would fade white.

Now I'm told that they had the big yellow decal AND they also could have been painted yellow from the factory.

Can anyone add to this and back it up with history, facts, and/or proof? I am looking for an original 630 and always went by the decal. Plus, I am pretty curious about this and is pretty interesting to me.

Thanks,

Robert

Who was this "well known decal manufacturer"? This is news to me, for sure. Trying to mask and paint a new tractor would have needlessly added to costs and taken much longer than the decal that was settled upon. Never say never, but this sounds suspect to me. Mike

Weren't the unstyled hoods silk screened? IIRC I saw an old factory movie of them silk screening the hoods. Maybe it was an article in Two Cylinder? One guy held the screen & another guy slapped the paint on with a squeegie or some sorta thing & it was done in seconds per side?

Maybe that's what was being discussed? Not sure what year but I'm pretty sure silk screening stopped long before the 20 & 30 series as is listed in the subject line!

I'm cornfused. But that's easily done!

Later.

Yes they were. Back in the early days of collecting it was a mark of a quality hood to have Lawrence Van Zante silk screen your hood.
