4440 hydraulic problem

im trying to figure out a problem on a 4440. the hyds are chattery. the 3 point and the remote outlets chatter when using them. i changed hyd filter and checked the sump screen. the funny part is that when i raise the 3 point with a blade on it moves up really slow but if i hold either of the rear remote outlet levers toward the back window then the 3 point raises up fast. when i use the remote outlets they start out running fast and normal then suddenly starts to shake the hoses and slow down. the front pump was replaced about a few years ago. this problem has been going on for quite awhile. also the steering wheel vibrates up and down and the oil cooler hoses shake some. if any of you guys can help me figure this one out i would be greatful. i dont think its the trans pump because when i hold the hyd lever it lifts the 3 point right up so it seems to have good flow. thanks joe. btw this tractor is a quad range.

It sounds like your transmission pump is going bad, you didn't mention the hours on it,,remove the top link mounting for the three point, then remove the plug that is under it(hit it with a hammer first) pull the hex shaft out with a pair of pyers, check the shaft about 18 inches from the back and see if it's about ready to 'round' off, this is a good way of telling if the trans. pump is failing, my bet is that it is, the new pump subs to a high out-put replacement about $750, you can change it without pulling the cab, if you want to know more about how,,mail me

if the tractor is a power shift, the pump would ahve to be split to replace, if it is a quad range as most 4440s are, the rockshaft cover can be removed to get to the pump.

The 150psi trans pump doesn't raise the 3pt hitch. The trans pump #1 lubes and operates the transmission high/low shift. #2 engages the pto clutch or pto brake. #3Supplies suction side oil to the front pump.#4 brakes.
It's 2250psi oil from the front pump which operates the scv,s, PS and rockshaft.
There is a high volume trans pump upgrade for the 4440.
There is a filter in the inlet of the front pump but odds are 99.999% it's ok.
The replacement of the front pump was likely a wild guess instead of diagnosis.

Joe,
I think 1 or both of your SCV's is leaking internally and is your hyd problem. If moving SCV levers causes 3pt to raise quicker I think it's not trans pump related.

Joe,
From your description of events, your problem sounds like you have a high pressure leak to sump, which can cause these symptoms you describe. If hitch raises better or normal when you hold the SCV levers to the rear that tells me you are shutting off flow to sump when doing this and indicates that the SCV control valves are leaking internally when the levers are in neutral or not being used. When you do this I suspect that there is no hoses in the SCV's when holding levers to the rear. Internal leakage inside the SCV's is robbing flow from other functions like the hitch. Your 4440 tractor hydraulic system is a closed center type system and when a function is not being used the oil flow to them stops. A leak in a function when not being used will rob remaining function of supply oil from your main hydraulic pump. Start you tractor in the morning when every thing is cold and do not operate any functions for 20 or 30 minutes. While waiting feel the sides of SCV control valve for increasing temperature. High pressure leaks create heat if you feel the control valves getting warm they are leaking internally. They normally will stay as cold as the drawbar. If you find they are getting warm remove SCV's and have them rebuilt. Simple fix. Good Luck, DW

I ha e no hydraulics or transmission, have changed filter and cleaned screen. What can I do? How do I get to the pu,p that moves the hydraulic fluid ?

1st thing that needs performed is diagnostic tests to determine what's wrong with your tractor. Many pumps have been replaced only to find out the old pump was not the problem.

Did you decide which transmission your tractor has????????

It's not clear to me whether New User Marston443 is the same poster or a new poster who has hijacked the thread.

QR has 2 gearshift levers shift pattern is below.

PS has one gearshift lever which gearshift moves in a straight line.

There was an option for 3rd type trans which I'll bet you don't have.
