If you can find them,Deere offered a reinforced frame rail for loader mounting. It had a 3/8"x 4"plate welded to the inside of the rail, which was punched to match all of the mounting holes.

The rails off a double stack front weight bracket will work too..welding a broken one will not usually last long...158's are tuff on side rails,,and front end supports,,and clutches,,and several other parts,, we ran one on a 4020 for years used it like a rubber tired dozer...I have seen all the weak spots..

Wish I could you help you with the frame rails as I have a salvage 4020 which has never had a loader on it, but it isn't torn down that far yet as the engine is still in it. Also has a wide front in good shape except one spindle has been borrowed from it. In wheat harvest right now so no time to tear it down right now.

I have a 158 on my older 4020 and it has been on there for 25 years. No problems at all, yet. When I worked at a dealership years ago we found out it was the Westendorf loaders or similar ones that caused all the problems. Any loader that doesn't mount solidly to the frame was a recipe for disaster. I've seen tons of side rails broken, bolts broken and engine block bolts holes enlarged enough to know I never want that style of loader on any of my tractors. Mike

If it was mine i would put new rails on it. Just think of the bent and broken parts if both rails give up at the same time

Beyond your specific problem...I see folks daily using loader tractors improperly....I see folks walking around 2000 plus pounds on the front ends of these 4x4's with no thought of ballast weight. These tractor front ends and frames old and new will not take this type of abuse. Your tractor was abused with the loader or it would not have become damaged in the first place. I call it breaking down the tractor and expecially the 4020 which has no front end assist the weight is being dozed forward. Believe it or not I haven't seen the manufacturers hardly mentioning the ballast issue and their commercials are even misleading. Not sure any welding could hold under those conditions, however one could fishplate similar to that used on trucks prior to all the dot laws and rules. Good luck on your issues.....best Chuck
