JD 4020 hydraulic question for loader.

I am a newbie and I have scanned through all of the loader addition threads I still have yet to find a few questions answers I was looking for:

I have a 1967 powershift with 1scv. I am adding a 3 spool joystick with a lever for my grapple from surplus center. I have a 2000 allied 695 loader. my tractor already has a "t" installed and capped under the break pedals, but nothing done for a return. I was going to put a "T" in the elbow behind the front filter cover for a return. My questions are 1) what size is that elbow 2) how much oil will I lose while I am putting my new fittings in. 3) would I benefit by putting couplers right off the "T" and right off the elbow"?

Thanks you guys in advance and any other newbie advice is appreciated......

I used a 6804-12-12-12 cost $7.50 and a 6503-12-12 90 degree adapter cost $12.52. Both from hydraulics direct for the return. I used a
very clean 5 gallon pail to catch the gallon to gallon and a half that leaked out. Many people run the return into a ported filter cover,
I just didn't like the looks of it.

Mike

The ported cover is good,, and for crying out loud you have to get down on your knees to see it ;^)...Make sure your new valve is an open system.. and screw the by-pass adjustment clear in tight...it will work well..

I think tim meant CLOSED CENTER ! THe 4020 has closed center hyd. I teed my pressure in at the fitting by the brake pedals and returned it into where the rockshaft return pipe goes in behind the filter area. Works great.

Ooh yes.. I did mean Closed..the Heat must have been getting to me,,it was in the the 90's here in Ohio yesterday,,the Temperature has been bobbing from the upper 40's to the 90's the past week.. I wonder if any one makes a "Waste Oil" Air conditioner?? ;^)

Well now you have an idea for your next project ! LOL.

Anyone that can make a JD 60 into a MFWD I'm betting can make a waste oil powered air conditioner.

90's wow you prob needed a light jacket. Here in South Georgia 90's with 90% humidity is just a spring day. LOL
Then when the gnats get out at about 100 you really need to hang on. LOL

I'm still trying to figure out the old time Gas refrigerators...there used to be one in this house years ago..

Ok sounds good guys...should I plumb my power and return lines straight into my joy stick or is there a benefit to putting quick couplers on each end of those lines? With the tractor off and hydraulics relaxed I shouldn't lose much out of the "t" under the break right? and just to double check will all of these be 1/2 in lines?

Thanks and sorry for all the newbie questions!!!!![/img]

Quick couplers are handy, but having JIC caps on the ready works out well and it will flow better with out couplers..

Never pasted a link before, hope this works for you. Mike

The 6503-12-12 is a 90 degree 3/4" fitting. You would have to adapt it down to 1/2". I put the adapter on the joystick end.

Mike

Tim S, at only 5'6", I only have to bend down a little to see it. :) As for a gas refrigerator, I remember a while ago seeing a camper that had one in it that ran off of propane, I believe, but that has been many moons ago.

Mike

Yea there you go ! It should work. Look at the camper ones that burn a LP flame. You can just use waste oil flame. I don't know how they work either but they do.

We still use an LP fridge at hunt camp. Takes about 2 days for it to really get rolling and down to temperature. Then we have to be carefull to keep it from freezing food.
The "modern" Amish and some Mennonites use a kerosene powered fridge or freezer.
