Ensign Carb BJ#600J

My ensign bj carburetor has gas running clear through into the air cleaner. I assume this means the float is not pushing the needle valve into its seat. Would there be any other reason? Thanks guys.

Other causes:

1) The float can be pushing on the needle but the needle may not be sealing to shut off the flow of fuel. Typically a bit of debris gets caught between the needle and the seat. Since the float is pushing up against the needle the debris remains pinched/clamped and will remain in place causing leakage.

Sometimes the debris can be dislodged by, shutting off the fuel at the tank, then draining the carburetor fuel bowl. This causes the float to drop down - no longer pushing against the debris. Once the fuel valve at the tank is opened the incoming fuel simply flushes the debris away. Operation returns to normal and you never had to remove or disassemble the carburetor.

2) Also, the fuel bowl needs to be vented. Should the vent become clogged the trapped air (pressure) in the bowl can push fuel out before the bowl is filled and the float can push against the needle valve. This is not common and some what carburetor specific, but I experienced it one time and will never forget the time spent finding the problem.

If you still have a cork float in that GP carb. Go to Ebay and get one of these. eBay item number:350269458990
