Steering shaft model b removal

Trying to remove my steering shaft from a 43 model B. I can't pull the shaft all the way thru because of the piece that lines up my steering wheel. Any thoughts or tips? Short of just cutting it off? Pics attached

Should be able to work that half moon key out with a pair of side cutters. Might have to tap on the ends a little with a hammer and soft drift.

That's a woooddruff key. Soak it and pry it out with a pair of sidecutters.

Thanks guys, I feel silly. Had pops finally come out and he knew what it was right away! Can't beat that wisdom that only comes from being around the block a time or two
