4250 LED Flashers

I have not posted any results yet on my LED turn signal erratic flashing. Recall I put on the LED amber warning lights on my 4250. The warning light mode works perfect, all four light flashing. The turn signal function is erratic.

I have been plowing and traveling on the road so I use the turn signal function. I find they both work but very very erratic. Randy at Tigerlights suggested I put in a new flasher. While I have not pulled it out yet it looks like the flasher on the 4250 and the turnsignal assembly is integrated. I have one now and will replace it once the plowing season is done.

I have studied the schematic of that circuit, in particular the flasher and turn signal schematic JD presents. I am pretty sure Randy's suggestion to replace the turnsignal and flasher is correct. The contacts in there have to be in pretty bad shape after 34 years. Not to mention, they were not designed for LED lights. It turns out contact design is a pretty interesting science and critical depending on the load.

Tim S is right on when he talks about the load. In this case I believe the contacts are also affecting the load. I will post again when I actually do post it.

Anyway, I got a neat link from Mr. Badger08. Here is a link to a flasher designed for LED light circuits. With his permission, I wanted to share it further.

Hopefully this will avoid having to add additional lights, resistors, or other loads to a flasher circuit to make it work.

I wondered if this would happen. This happens with most vehicles as well. The original systems are not designed for the super light load of LED's so it makes flashers and warning light systems think there is not enough load and the bulb is burnt out. You can buy resistors you can install inline before each LED bulb to correct the issue. I did this when I changed my truck tail lights to LED's. You MIGHT be able to find a flasher replacement for LED's but I have had NO luck with that so far. More popular bulbs/cars some places are even making plug and play harnesses with built in technology.

Advanced Auto, Napa, etc. all see the resistors now since they all sell LED bulbs. I think a pack of 2 is around $20. You can get them cheaper on fleabay but be careful as some sellers are out of the country and the quality is real low.
