4240 Engine Rebuild

My 4240 has about 11,000 hours on it and she is getting tired. It does not like to start below 60 degrees. Time for a rebuild....
I have a turbo setup from a 4440 on her and I feel since I will have it open should I install rods from a 4440 so I can have oil spray on the piston for additional cooling? What is your guys thoughts? Will the oil pump still supply enough oil for this? Anything else that I should look for when it is open? Aftermarket rebuild kit?

Engine s/n 160463RG

Thanks

Crankshaft dampner, cam bushings, oil pump gear/camshaft, rear crank seal, water pump, thermostats, rad boil, injection
pump/injectors.
I am sure others will chime in with their opinions

The pistons you have are okay to keep using,,the oil spray is in the block, go with a Reliance kit for High altitude for a little better performance, have a good shop work the head and make sure the valves are out where they belong, if they get ground in deeper it hurts them..

Yes, a 44 has larger wrist pins.

What do you mean that the oil spray is in the block? Doesn't the oil spray come from the crank and goes through the rods?

Should I use a rebuild kit from a 4440?

No, do not use a 4440 kit with your 4240 head, it will not start very well. 4440 pistons have valve reliefs because the valves stick past the head surface. Where the 4240 piston is flat and the valve sit below the head surface.

The piston coolers are in the main saddle on the deeres, 4240 rods are gun drilled for piston pin lube and the 4440 rods have a hole in the top of the rod for pin oiling.

A 4440 would be lower compression because it's turbocharged right?

There are small nozzles just above the main bearings in the block that directs oil to underside of the pistons.

I thought the nozzles were on top of the connecting rods like they are on a 4-53 Detroit...
Guess I learned something new today.
