John Deere 4010 12v Alternator Wiring

Hey guys! So got two new 12v batteries in the 4010 today and it started right up! Hard to believe the owner has been pulled starting it for years when all it needed was batteries. Anyway, I want to make sure the alternator is wired correctly.

From the original harness there are two wires(BAT A and BAT B on key switch) spliced into one that goes to the BAT terminal.

BAT terminal is then jumpered to the #2 terminal in the plug.

#2 terminal in the plug goes to GEN terminal in the key switch.

Now there is also a resistor between #1 and #2 terminal in the plug.

Alternator was charging while running and once shutdown, I could not see any power draw on the batteries with a test light.

So is it wired correctly?

If so, what is the resistor and does anyone have a part # so I can get a replacement? I managed to break one of the lead while messing with the plug.

Thanks for the help!!

Assuming this is a diesel that was 24 volt converted to 12 volt. If so:

Bat A and Bat B to Bat on alternator is correct
Bat on alternator to #2 on plug is correct
I assume you meant #1 on plug to GEN terminal on switch. This should have the charge indicator light in this wire. Correct wiring is GEN of switch to one side of indicator light, other side of indicator to #1 on alternator. When switch is turned on lamp should glow, when engine starts and alternator begins charging the lamp should go out.

Initial voltage to #1 pin is to excite or jump start the alternator to charge.

I've never seen Delco alternator with resistor across 1 and 2. I wonder if someone tried to use it in place of charge lamp. If lamp works correctly I would not reconnect resistor

Sorry,

Yes you are correct this was 24v diesel that has been converted to 12v.

Yes I meant #1 on plug to GEN terminal.

I will see where the charge lamp ties into the wiring and remove the diode. I had actually just found this information in the archives as well!

Thanks again!
