John Deere B Fan shaft

On a 1943 JD B serial #144427 do you need to remove the radiator to get the fan and shaft removed once disconnected from the governor housing? I need to remove the manifold. We pulled the head in the recent past to grind valves and change rings but rather not go that route again. That time we pulled the head and manifold together. I already have all other items removed to pull manifold, except the fan shaft. It now appears it would have been easier to pull the head again.

The manifold has a crack in it now, therefore the reason for the removal.

Thanks for your input.

As I remember, you are likely to damage the radiator if you don't remove it first. It's not that hard to take off, and I found it makes getting the fan shaft out much easier.

I had to remove the fanshaft on one of those before and think I had to remove the gov. housing too. Good chance it needs some attention in there anyhow. They don't oil that good and bearings and gears seem to get worn out or damaged from rusting.
