Joystick to 4010

While converting my 4010D to 12 volt, I thought I would finally plumb in the joystick that I bought 3 years ago. For the input, I did not use AN14024 cost $48.28, I used a 6803-10-10-10 cost $5.66. I plumbed the return into the rock shaft return, as I think it looks better than the ported filter cover. I did not use AK40462 cost $40.13, I used a 6804-12-12-12 cost $7.50 and a 6503-12-12 90 degree adapter cost $12.52. After that, I did my own UN-scientific speed comparison:
From rear svc with a JD48 loader: Raise 9 seconds, lower 5 seconds, dump 4 seconds, roll back 4 seconds
From joystick with a JD48 loader: Raise 8 seconds, lower 4 seconds, dump 4 seconds, roll back 3 seconds
I think I will like the joystick, but will REALLY like having the rear svc's open even more.

The nicest 4020 with Loader I drove had the valves installed on the left fender. It sounds weird at first, but it was very nice setup. kinda like putting the side console on the left for loader work.

Here are a couple of pictures. I mounted my valve on the left also so when I am pushing snow, I can operate it with the left and shift with the right.

You won't be able to do much hyd. valve operating when shifting gears anyhow as when you push in the clutch you will start to loose charge pump function.

David G, the valve I bought is a "Brand Hydraulics" PLV22TSTKAB. It came as an open center, and I had to install the closed center plug. Also, I found out that the relief pressure was factory set to 2000 psi. I called their support, they instructed me how to and how much to turn it up, and it is working great now.

Mike M, please explain. I have always shifted into reverse from 5th while lifting and dumping snow. Is the way that I have the valve plumbed wrong?

Mike

No you are not wrong just that tractor was not made to pump with the clutch down. You are likely doing it so fast you don't notice as there is a little oil in a reserve tank above the front tank.
Hold the clutch down and run it some and you will soon see the hyd. drop off to nothing. Just the way those closed center systems work. If you have to work the loader much without moving the tractor shift into neutral and then let the clutch pedal back up.

Unless the bucket circuit runs through that relief ? Lots of loaders have a relief circuit on the bucket cylinders so if you ram into something with it pointed down it can "give" a little.
I have no idea how his valve is made. Since it is working good as the tech. guys told you to set it I'd be inclined to leave well enough alone. They may now something we don't ?

Actually that needs done right from the start, the relief valve in the joy stick will be set on about 1900psi,,you are throwing 2250psi at it so it will be bypassing and heating up the oil..

While the transmission pump mayn't be operating, the loader return oil is being routed to the front pump inlet .Thanks to the loader return line bypassing the transmission pump and flowing almost directly into the transmission filter canister. That return flow , a gallon or two oil oil in the tank plus the cooler. The 4010's front pump will never miss a beat during gear shifts and while waiting clutch down for the bucket to dump at the spreader.
