I just bought a jd 7000 plate planter and was wondering how essential that baffle plate is that goes above the seed plate. I have ran buffalo planters for years and the don't have it the one allis chalmers
plate planter i have seen doesn't have one and i don't think the 71 flex planters i have looked at have one either. I would like to be rid of it as it would make sweeping down the boxes much easier. right now
its very difficult because the dead spots in the box are mostly covered by the square baffle plate with the hole in the center. thanks guys

I cannot offer any suggestions on this. I do have a question for you, though. What types of crop seed are you planting? I have never seen a 7000 Max-Emerge planter with plates. Ours had the finger pickup units for corn and the drill cups was used for soybeans and sorghum. We switched to the Kinze brush meters when they came out. It was a very worthwhile investment. Never seeded anything else with it, other than the few years I raised popcorn for a bit of a hobby. We just used the finger pickup units and drove very slowly. It worked out great.

here in western kansas and in to the central part of the state most of the 7000 planters you see are plate type. i have heard of a few finger pickup ones but i don't think they were to popular i think the plate type was more popular here because of dryland grain sorghum you can get very accurate metering with a plate planter in milo. where the seed cup system was more like a controlled spill at least thats what a jd parts man told me as i had never seen one till i opened this planters manual. I just bought the machine and am planting corn right now but i grow milo and soybeans as well
