4010D electrical

Hey guys! Finally got that 4010 diesel in the shop. Currently has two
3ET batteries, that are shot. Both batteries negative terminals are
grounded to the trans housing which leads to me think it's been
converted to 12V. How can I test or tell if the starter and alternator
are in fact 12V or if they are 24V and someone just has the batteries
hooked up incorrectly? Thanks for the help!

Alternator would not be original on 4010, and get the part number off starter, that will tell

I would dump the dual skinny batteries and put in one big high CCA battery.

Ditto what David stated to procure the ID numbers on starter & alternator. Both negative battery posts attached to frame would definitely indicate electrical system is 12 volts

The starter will have a battery cable stud on the back side if it's 24 volt, as well as one on the solenoid..

Thanks guys. I will see what I can find for numbers on the starter and alternator.

I brought this up, because the current owner has had this tractor for 2yrs and has never been able to start it. Always pull started it and bought it that way. Both batteries are shot, and hooked up as 12v system so I want to make sure everything is correct for a 12v system and not just that someone has the batteries hooked up wrong.

I do know both positive cables are going to the same post...I believe it was on the starter solenoid.
