John Deere AR quits

I have a 1951 styled JD AR. It has been fully restored and looks pretty sharp. It starts and runs real nice, however, every so often it quits for no apparent reason, at random. It won't start right away, but eventually does. Normally, the ammeter needle jumps when I turn the key, but after it quits the needle doesn't budge when I turn the key. Would this be a poor connection somewhere or something else?
I would appreciate any ideas, Thanks

I've seen quite a few comments on other's posts with tractors that did the same. Most people say the coil could be bad. Will run fine for a while but once it heats up it goes bad. I'd see if you can find a good method to test it or see if someone local could. If I had a method to test it I'd let you know. But that's what most people say it is when this happens.
