3055 - Good Machines?

Looked at a 3055 recently to add to the fleet. MFWD, Partial Power Shift, Hi/Lo, 2 sets of remotes. Front tires aren't the best but the rears are good. Tractor ran good, shifted good. Hooked up a few implements and ran them with no issues and hydraulics worked with no hesitation. One issue spotted was the front driveshaft had a wobble. The stub shaft coming out of the drop box was solid, no leaks, no movement but the actual u-joint on the driveshaft and the end itself seemed to be the trouble. Working tach had just under 5k hours.

Anything to look out for on these. I realize these were made for the European market and that could down the road make parts become a bit more pricey possibly. Taken that into consideration.

Although the later model 55 series Mannheim utility tractors have a decent track record I don't like the hyd systems on JD utility tractors of that era. I'd chose a rowcrop tractor built in Waterloo that had much better hyd system plus have a wet traction vs dry on utility model

Jim - What's the difference in the hydro systems? This one does not have the rockshaft system our 2555 had (under the seat), but has actual pistons for the 3 pt. more like a 4055, etc. but not as robust as the 6200 we just bought.

Never seen a partial power shift, lots of quad range transmissions or eight speeds such as a TSS with a high/low.

Why isn't the hyd 2 speed of a Quad-range similar to a partial Powershift trans. Each one has planetary gears engaged/disengaged by hyd pressure supplied by trans pump to wet clutches?????????? Only difference I see is Powershift has more hyd engaged gears than a QR trans.

3055 has tubes in clutch housing that supplies oil to hyd hi-lo & hyd pto that have a long history of failure in the smaller utility tractors that rowcrop tractors don't have. If I'm viewing 3055 parts catalog correctly(& I think I am) tractors with external lift cylinders also have internal rockshaft piston & control valves. I think fitting(key 4) attaches to rockshaft piston housing inside of RS housing and has the same control valves that have a history of leaking
