I have a 2355 4WD in the shop that is jumping out of low range when going down hill.We have pulled the transmission top cover and lift cover and are attempting to split it between the clutch housing and transmission, we have removed the 4WD solenoid cover, but we cannot get it to roll apart. It will move approx. 3/8 in and not go any farther. Does the 4WD clutch pack have to be removed? I have an IT manual and a parts diagram, but I cannot tell what is holding it from rolling apart. Can anyone tell me what I am missing. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Do you have the front drive shaft removed? If not, it is the driveline binding as you try to roll it apart. The mfwd clutch is spring engaged.

Cliff, THANK YOU !! very much. I did not have the front drive shaft out. I removed it and it rolled right apart. Sometimes it's the simple things you overlook.
