I have a 205 in Louisiana, if you want call me at 318-542-0896, I could possibly bring half way when I go to ill. this summer.

I looked for nearly 10 years for one that was good enough to restore and found two that we made one good one out of. The 205 is the only head that will fit the 40 and 42 combine. I will send some pictures. It is a big job to restore one to a like new condition. Good luck on your search. Tom

A nice job on that Tom,, I think it is much harder to restore a combine than a tractor.. I sold my #30 combine and have been thinking about restoring a 42, with both heads,,but I have not found one yet. I have done about all you can do with 60's,,now for some equipment to go with them...

That's beautiful Tom I been looking for little over 4 years and just recently think I found one . 17 hours away though but considering it " I'm nuts "

Tim,

It is a great learning curve restoring a combine. Several things that a person will learn is there are practically no parts available. Nearly everything that needs replacing needs to be hand made. Even the little rubber paddles with the old style open link chains that you need to replace for the clean grain and the tailings elevators are hard to come by. Their is so little demand for parts that all the salvage yards crush a pull type combine as soon as they get them. Sixty year old sheet metal will not take a good high pressure washing like cast iron on an old tractor will. Even with a great team helping me it took about three years of our hobby time to complete this project. We chose the model 42 as it was the first pull type combine that John Deere made to be fitted with a corn head and it was the first with the grain tank above the separator. This allows the wheels to be placed in close enough to load on a standard 102 inch highway trailer.
My wife and I are having a new home built in Arizona and I have decided to have my whole collection in Mecum's auction next April. I will guarantee that you will be able to buy this one for far less than what I have into it and far less than you will be able to restore one from scratch.

I want one for that same reason, my 30 was good but too wide to hauls to a show. A friend of mine lets me pull his at Rantual but he lives close to the show,,and I know your right about restoring one, yours will not bring half what you have in it, unless a couple other guys are there wanting one...I am interested in yours..
