1020 load shaft leak

Can the load shaft be removed and repaired like the old Waterloo tractors, or do I need to follow the tech manual and split the rear end and remove the rockshaft housing? It seems the Tech manual's instructions are for a complete R&R of the system. Also... shouldn't it be shimmed to remove all end play of the draft links? This is a new-to-me 1020D ser.# 53429T which came complete with a drip-drip at the load shaft. I've repaired several Waterloos of the same era easily in a couple of hours. Also... is there an o-ring upgrade for this model, similar to the Waterloo models? Thanks.

Yes L/D seals can be R&R by sliding shaft out the side of trans case. You're correct upon reassembly that side to side of shaft should be shimmed to a minimum. Be sure to put L/D lever under seat in "D" & drain hyd oil. This would be a good opportunity to check/clean hyd sump screen.
