I think the filters can be changed and the screen cleaned without draining the oil. Just like to be sure - hate to get a bad surprise. Appreciate if someone can confirm.

Filter, yes.

Screen, well, that requires a shop vac to put a vaccuum on the fill pipe to hold the oil in, and perhaps a lot of luck.

I'm of the opinion that if you think the screen is plugged, you'd better change the oil too.

I never tried the shop vac idea. I will check the screen without draining the oil but always have two buckets in case something goes wrong. On a good day I loose less than two gallon but once in a while..... :( Tom

The vac idea is Tx Jim's. I've never done it. The few times I checked a screen, I drained all the oil. And was glad I did, because oftentimes it seems the screen can be stuck enough that it doesn't just slide out.

Not saying it won't work, but I don't think I'm going to depend on a shop vac to hold 15 gallons of hydraulic fluid in. Could be one of those unwelcome surprises.

Running shop vacuum will keep oil in reservoir as long as nozzle to filler hole is not leaking vacuum.

I was joking about vacuum sucking in oil.

The shop vac deal works as long as you duct tape the vacuum hose to the filler tube really good....and nobody accidently unplugs the vac!
