Ok I have been into my 60's rockshaft housing about 3 times in the last 2 years or so. Symptoms are this: I have a 45 loader plumbed out the side of the power troll housing. It allows me to lift the loader, when I do this the rockshaft goes up and then comes down. I have a valve in the pressure side of the loader arms so when I want to just use the rockshaft point, I lift the loader, close the valve and the loader stays put and I use the rockshaft/3 point hitch happily cutting hay etc. But what seems to happen over time, as I use the rockshaft/three point, it stops lifting and wont hold anything up. I first tried replacing the o-ring and leather in the piston from the back of the tractor. I did this 3 or so times. It works for a while, then the same thing happens. I had a heavy box blade on it last time and it lasted a day, then it wouldn't lift nothing. I did have a problem with the loader drifting down, and I finally got a replacement spring in the power troll and it solved the loader drifting down problem, but not the 3 point problem. Next I took the rockshaft housing off again and this time replaced the gasket between the rockshaft cylinder and the rockshaft housing. The pressure port was blown out allowing fluid to leak past the pressure side into the cylinder causing the piston to not push out making the rockshaft go up. At last I thought I found my smoking bullet with all my problems. I replaced the gasket with a new one about a month ago and it worked. Parked it in the barn. Today I went out and used the loader to push some junk out of the way and now the rockshaft is not hardly functioning again. I hate to go back in the rockshaft again, but I don't know what to look for now. I have backed out the throttling valve till its closed to see if the rockshaft would hold up and it wont, so now it sounds like its the cylinder and piston again. See pictures of what I have found over the years of tearing this down. I don't know if I should try another cylinder and piston combo or what? I am using universal hydraulic fluid.
