67 4020D Front Hydraulic Pump Chatter

My 67 4020D front hydraulic pump just started chattering a bit the other day. It seems to do this when hydraulics are not being used. When I turn the steering it stops temporarily. When I raise the lift it stops temporarily.

I drained the oil which was at proper fill and checked the screen behind the filter and it was clean. I suspect the filter is clean but will probably replace anyway since it has not been changed in years.

Is there a filter in the hydraulic pump or any other place that I need to check?
Any other thoughts on what is causing this is appreciated.

This just started but hay season is almost here and I would like to get this fixed before then if possible.

If you catch it in time, you might just need four little plastic bushings. #4 in the diagram.

Thanks for the replies and much needed help.

What is the best way to check for wear on the drive coupler?
Can the plastic bushings be changed without removing the pump?

In JDEM"s diagram, remove #2, give #6 a quarter turn, and you can inspect/replace the plastic bushings.

All below is good, but I'd build on what Tim S posted below... make sure the splined coupling is tight on the shaft (tighten the clamping bolts/nuts). I have had them chatter from that coming loose as well as the coupling.

Got under the tractor and noticed some play in the end with the bushings. The spline end was good and tight with no play. Took the coupler apart and the bushings are shot and falling apart. This may not be the problem causing the chatter but it is definitely a problem. Getting new bushings and replacing tomorrow.
