JD A Clutch-Cobbled Mess

Just when you think you've seen everything. I got my parts for this '49 A I got a few weeks ago and got it running last night and it had a vibration in it when you revved it up, so I checked the flywheel bolts (good) and then pulled the clutch cover off and found out the guy before me had let the cast iron clutch disc either get loose and wobble on the crankshaft. So instead of getting a new disc/hub, I find out he decided to use a stick welder and attempt to weld the hub directly to the crank. It didn't hold and continued to wobble. It had goobered up weld all around the crank end, so I had to die grind that out to get the disc off. Thought I'd share...

And while I'm here, can someone tell me where the balanced clutch disc goes on in relationship to the flywheel? Since the V notch in the crank is long gone at this point, I'm going to have to install the new hub manually and if/when it works, I'll put a "V" in the crank again. Yes, the crank is going to have to be built back up most likely, machined back down on the end, and squared up. Got my work cut out for me. This tractor isn't going to get a lot of use, but I'd at least like to have it run right if necessary. No use in putting a new hub on over worn splines on the crank or I'll be right back to where I'm at.

So the counterweight on the clutch is 180 to the counterweight on the flywheel, is that correct?
Thanks, Pat.

Thanks Tom, I will keep that in mind. Hoping to get this A running for a test drive and see what works and what doesn't.
