2640 flywheel step dimension

After great searches through the technical manual finally discovered in italic print if material is removed from friction surface remove same amount from pressure plate mounting surface. No $%^#* But what if friction surface is all chewed up from metalic disc? How about just giving the correct dimension? Anyone know what the step is supposed to be?

Isn't there still an unworn spot to get a starting point from ?

I never liked even when they do give only a step dimension as I'd also like a minimum thickness amount too as you never know how many times it has been turned.

Guess mother Deere just wants us to buy a new one. Yes can compare area outside wear area versus step. Rather give machine shop specs and not rely on common sense as much ! ;) Man, I'm eat up with sarcasm in this post. As you mentioned max and min numbers be nice too.

Curious and hopeful someone discovered the correct step dimension or has a brand new flywheel around they can measure. Put it back together and clutch won't release. Even with linkage adjusted up to point throw out bearing / pressure plate hit the travel limit clutch won't release. Can get it in low gear at idle n stop tractor with brakes with clutch depressed but it won't shift and it loads motor. looking through inspection port pressure plate travels about 1/8" away from flywheel but I can't move disk with screw driver. It appears to be mashed tight against flywheel. I'm sure it is possible I put disk in backwards even with the flywheel side sticker on it. Or maybe sticker was on the wrong side. Out of curiosity i did try the disk both ways against flywheel and it didn't hit the pilot bearing / crankshaft hub like generally happens when disk is backwards. Typically that leads to slipping anyway and not a release issue. Also tried disk on splines first and slid freely. Haven't made time to split it yet and start measuring and hunting what going on. Be nice to know exactly what step should be to see if some shims are needed under pressure plate.

Thanks,
