John Deere H coolant drain plug

Just recently bought an John Deere H, It has a few minor things that need to be done. But other wise a nice tractor. I like it. (coming from a farmall guy.) I need to change the lower radiator hose I think the drain plug is located at the bottom of the head. But the plug looks buggered up.
Is it possible to heat this plug while there still coolant in the system? or is there another way to remove this plug I haven't tried to remove it yet. Thanks Dave F.

I would just stick a tub under the hose and cut it a little so it drains, then you can use a little heat if need be.Just concentrate the heat on the plug.

I WOULD NOT heat it. Very good chance you will crack the thinly made head casting. BTDT on a model A. If you want it out try that regrinding new flats idea first and then if that does not work drill it out and retap it. Or if it does not leak and you can live with it just pull the lower hose to drain it and leave the plug alone.

Don't know which type plug you have.
If it's hex head rounded off try a pipe wrench.
If it's just a square headed pipe plug try the
same being careful not to shear it off.
If it doesn't turn easily I heat them all the time.
Replace the plug with a new one using pipe dope so it
is easier to remove next time.
If you don't want to use a new plug do as others suggested
and just punch a hole in the hose.
If it has a long hose there is a pipe missing. Not
important if correctness is not important for showing etc.

I have heated as well with no issues. One ended up drilling and turned it out with an easy out.

Had one with a bad lower water pipe, last couple inches rusted thru. Just hacked it off and put a longer hose on it rather than sweating a new pipe in. Not a perfect specimen but it works great.
