Carburetor drill bits????

I have read and heard of small drill bits being used to clean out the small passages inside of those pesky DLTX carburetors.

What sizes are they and where can I get them???

I have two carbs that seem to show all the signs of having some debris inside. I'm wanting to take them off and do an all out cleaning!

A #40 and a #53 drill bit. The bits are 6" long and can be purchased from www.robertscarbrepair.com

You can also order any parts you need from www.robertscarbrepair.com or you can phone them at 712 262 5311.

(quoted from post at 21:11:20 05/01/17) Turn those drill bits by hand. Don't use a drill.

And if it is rusted pretty badly, go slow and easy. You definitely do not want to get it stuck and then break it off inside trying to get it loose again.

Got my drill bits at Roberts. If you need parts Roberts is the place to get them. Top of the line gaskets also not the hard China made ones that everyone else sells.

Just chiming in to concur with the previous comments. The only place I know that sells those bits is Roberts. Definitely turn them by hand and be sure to soak the carb before hand. I had a DLTX 67 carb with a blocked idle passage. Soaked it in degreaser, gas, and filled the passage with baking soda and vinegar, then drilled. Perhaps not by the book, but worked well enough. I also agree with other posts that Robert's is a cut above in quality. Had a generic float valve in my JD 60 that kept flooding. Bought a new needle valve at Robert's and had no subsequent problems.

Thanks every one for the inputs! I was pretty damn surprised at how small these bits were. I tried a length of 20 thousands safety wire and got some of the crap out. Evidently not enough!

I agree with Kent about Fastenal. I think
they are referred to as aircraft bits.

The McMaster-Carr online catalog has a #40 bit for $3.02 -item # 3161A54, and a #53 bit for $8.07 -
item # 3161A68. These bits are 6" long.

Don't know how these prices compare to Roberts or Fastenal.
