Worn choke lever?

The choke lever is worn on my JD 50, enough that the plates don't open completely. It's a tiny groove worn on the inside of the lever where it contacts the cross pin in the choke shaft, and I wonder if anyone has had success filling this groove with JB Weld or something similar? Or how about Bondo (which I'll have mixed up for another project anyhow)?

New levers are available, but it will cost at least $40 to get one in my hand and I'm a certified skinflint. Kinda stupid I guess - I've spent thousands on this tractor - what's another $40? Ha!

JB Welds doesn't like gas or gas fumes, it will become tight & Unusable.
Best bet is 2 New Bushing in the housing & a New Shaft, fix it right,.

There are some fixes that are worthwhile and others that all they do is eat up more of your time until you do it right and replace the part anyway. I think this one falls into the latter group.

Even if they are charging $40 for a $10 part.

The choke shaft and the bore it fits in are good. The lever in question is the pot metal, spring loaded cap/lever that goes over the end of the shaft on the outside of the carburetor, held on by one spring loaded screw. There is nothing to tighten or become unusable in this location, but the JB Weld might soften or wear fast if the fumes affect it. Thanks for the comments - this is my first time fooling with JB Weld.
