I put the new style steps on the left side of my 4250. They work a lot better for me to get in and out of the tractor. I took the old steps and put them on the right side of my 4250 so I could get up and wash the right windshield. There was not a hole in the frame to accommodate the step so I added my own place to fasten the step under the frame. I was not about to add holes to the frame, a structural member. I also added my own plate under the battery box to accommodate all of this. The other benefit is the steps are slightly further away from the tractor to make more room for me. The valve cover makes a good hand hold to pull myself up on the steps when the valve cover is not overly hot.
Note I also put a K&M tool box and step on the left side so I could get to the fuel cap and peer in. I found two of these RED tool boxes at an auction. A friend sandblasted and painted them green for me. These are great tool boxes. If you look close you will see the adapter plate I made to put the tool box on a JD.
