JD 4240 head on JD 4230

It should fit with no issues, they both use the same valves.

The issue you'll most likely run into is the injectors and lines are different between the two. 4230's used pencil injectors and the 4240 used KDEL. They where set at lower pressures for the rotary pump, but will be indistinguishable from injectors used on its bigger siblings with inline injection pumps.

4230 & 4240(engine sn <-180011)utilize the same part number for cyl head AR85231 so yes the heads will interchange from early model 4240.

Thank you kindly for the information.
I will have him get me some info on the injectors in his head and go from there.

Early 4230 was pencil injector, late was kdel just like
the 4240. Early and late ones should be
interchangeable but fuel lines and injectors are not
the same

And the KDL large nozzles had 2 different threads in the head, and 2 different injector lines,,so that would need to match up too..

From what he has told me now his 4230 has pencil style injectors and a rotary pump.
The 4240 parts machine he picked up has a rotary pump and screw in injectors.

Worse case scenario I am guessing he could change the complete head with injectors and use the matching pump and lines from the 4240 with it.

He can get 4240 injector lines and change the fittings in his pump to the ones that match the 4240, and of course the 4240 or very late 4230 injectors
