A 2 cyl was rebuilt but not finished. (enter Jocco) It appears the cam and crank ARE NOT IN TIME. GOING BUY NORMAL LH exhaust and impulse marks. I was told there were no marks on the cam and crank on this one. Anyone give any advice on how to time them. The exhaust mark is lining up as the valve begins to open. But impulse is at or near bottom dead center!!! Thanks all

Some cams and cranks are not marked. It's been several years since I did one without marks. The "G" IT manual had a procedure for timing without marks. My manual is no longer here to give you the procedure.

You should look on the inside for cam and crank indexing marks. If they are inside then they probably will not be lined up at TDC as the crank throw would tend to be in the way. Keep rolling, watch for divots to line up. Exhaust valve is supposed to start opening at EXHAUST mark which means your cam and crank are correct - that means your governor gear is the one that is out of wack. At IMPULSE horizontal 3 O'clock position, the drive slot for the mag or distributor should be horizontal too. Is it?

Always take off mag or distributor before removing left side bearing cover for governor shaft. If you put this cover on with the mag or distributor mounted on the other side you can bend the drive shaft of either and that's a very easy and pretty pricey mistake to make. Governor gear can be worked out of mesh and rotated into proper position, thinking these too may or may not have timing marks on the outside this time. Doesn't matter, only horizontal drive slot matters. I'm guessing it's vertical right now.
