With good advice from the forum back in January, I was eventually able to maneuver my 2020 engine to TDC, remove the injector pump, and find a shop that could do a rebuild on the CBC. Unfortunately, I encountered a major setback when I tried to reinstall it today. I turned the mounting nut a bit too tight and one of the flange ears cracked! That's a sick feeling that's hard to describe. Now, I have an opportunity to tackle two new problems! First, I'll need to find someone who can do some skillful welding, and then I'll need to be sure I don't repeat the same mistake when it goes back on again. I'm a bit concerned about how the shaft may have been holding the pump out (i.e., not flush) enough for the "play" that allowed the crack to occur. The female component of the shaft inside the pump is rectangular and marked with a dot for alignment. That was defintely in the right place and corresponded correctly with the pump. Is it possible that something was making the shaft protrude a tiny bit too far from the tractor, or is this just the way it works? Also, does anyone have experience with welds on something this delicate?
