2 cylinder clutch covers

anyone know what makes the clutch covers push out? is it the 3 operating bolts or usually something else? my 720 diesel was doing that yesterday i pushed it on once and it came out right away then pushed it on again later and seemed to stay but i didn't use it much after the 2nd time , just drove it to the shed. i think we have 1 or 2 others that seem to do this. i put new disks and plates in my 720 this winter and still had to use the 2nd cotter pin hole to lock the adjusting nuts.

if it is the operating bolts can a guy just cut the end of it off or is that not a good idea, I'm pretty sure those bolts are expensive?

i didn't pound it on, just torqued the bolt to around 150 if i remember correctly, maybe not quite that much either, i know i was over 100#. i broke
the driver getting it off, had to heat it and use a 3 jaw puller to get it off along with some hammering, so i didn't want to get this one that dang
tight. what torque should that bolt get? the book just says to tighten it or something along those lines.

I would say the DOGS and TOGGLES are worn and need replaced . The dogs wear much more than the toggles . Look at the pin that the operating sleeve and the hole it slides thru. Clutch bolts can wear some where they go thru the DOGs but those very seldom stretch .Grease the bearing and dogs (WITH THE CORRECT GREASE) and replace the bushing . Last time I replaced any they were about $17 each . No doubt are higher now .

I think on some the bolts push them out. You also have to make sure it is on correctly. The 3 spots on the lip that are flat go where the adjusting nuts are at and not where the clips are. The clips are to pop up over the rolled lip and then they can hold the cover on good. Took me a few years to figure this out.

wow i know i didn't go that tight. ill have to get the 3/4 torque wrench on it tomorrow.

how much is a guy suppose to beat on them?

torqued the driver tonight, no beating on it. i can see on the end of the operating bolts that they are coming in contact with the cover so i'm sure that's whats pushing it off. when clutch disengaged i can see 2 to 4 threads sticking past edge of pulley on each bolt. i suppose my dogs and or toggles have enough wear in them to cause this. guess its probably going to stay this way for a while as long as the cover don't come off.
