How good is a 820 diesel 3 cyl tractor, looking for 1 to use on a 5 ft bush hog, since there're made in Germany are parts hard to get or do I need to find a 1020 or 1520 that's made in the USA, I've never had any dealings with these tractors, thanks again

820 has an odd-ball hydraulic system as compared to what is used on 1020s and 300s even though the latter also use some German parts. 820 shares some parts with Deutz tractors. I would much rather have a 1020 or 300. When it comes to the 1020-300 series, I'd also want the bigger pump. Three different sizes used. As I recall, a .7 cubic inch German pump, a 1.4 cubic inch German pump, or a 2.4 cubic inch USA pump is used.

I still remember selling JD 820 3 cyl tractors when they were new. Delivered the tractor & most never required any warranty repairs. For general 3 pt hitch operations I wouldn't be scared of the open-center hyd system on this model.Tractor came with dual stage clutch.

All kinds of Deere equipment used in the US that the owner/operator has no idea that the tractor was built in Germany and France.
Deere parts for Deere equipment are available at the Deere parts counter. Here is where to look them up for free.http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/servlet/com.deere.u90490.partscatalog.view.servlets.HomePageServlet_Alt

Deutz tractors DX50 and 7085 use the same gear hydraulic pump at the 820 John Deere. Pump is Deutz part # 1174210 and Deere part # AR55346.

Minor differences between the 1020 and 1520. 1520 has a slightly bigger engine If diesel, 1020 has a 152 engine and 1520 has a 164 engine. 1530 is near the same as the 1520 but diesel only (no gas version available). On the 1020 or 1520, a closed-center German hydraulic pump is used. Either the tiny .7 cubic inch or the 1.4 cubic inch. 1530 comes with the bigger 1.4 German pump only. The industrial "1020" sold as the model 300 was available with the USA built 2.4 cubic inch pump.

Dad had a new 820 then a 830 and three different 2040's. They were good tractors that caused very little problems and they were used had. Tom

Went and looked at my 920....The hydraulic pump is made by Bosch and by the catalog is the number you noted (for power steering) Can see it would have other applications as well.
There is no issue with parts availability for this family of tractors here in Canada, nor should there be in the US
