how good is a 420w gas tractor, what equipment can they handle, any week points to look for and what is a good one worth with wide front good paint, tires and sheet metal, thanks again
 

While there were staight steer yellow stripe tractors with optional live pto and optional PS iirc . Slant steer models had an improved transmission, with optional live pto, optional PS etc. The optional SCV is handy some implements.

Some places a well optioned 420 can be had for way less than others. I looked hard for two years and found worn out or beat down 420's that people thought were worth their weight in gold...

I was looking in and around New England.
 
it has straight front axle but the rest i'll need to look, only saw a few pics so far, are parts available for these tractors?
 

Many parts will mix and match across from the 40 to the 1010, depending. Mother Deere and aftermarket venders are well stocked. Given the number of Dubuques built in that era , parts can be located in some salvage yard somewhere.
A well optoned 420 slant steer is a fine machine for small jobs.
 
Pretty solid little tractors. 2 bottom plow, 6ft disc, 5ft brush hog etc. We did hay with my grandpa's 430 (same thing) for years with a 7ft sickle mower, rake and 14t baler. Anything that old can have issues. Front end slop going down the road seems common, but can be fixed. I have one that needed some bearings in the rear end. Had a bunch of water in it from sitting outside. They were all available from deere. Parts for these are easy to come by. A slant steer would be $2-5k here, depending on options and condition.
