This is one method of installing a fuel tank without damaging the paint.

Take a look at the FUEL TANK, FUEL FILTER, AND ASSOCIATED PARTS diagram below.

Start by conscripting a helper that is both reliable and willing to follow directions.

Drain the gas from the fuel tank.

Remove the air breather cap, gas cap, oil cap, and radiator cap.

Wrap the muffler with a towel and secure with duct tape.

Remove both the grill and hood by turning the stud fasteners counter-clockwise without letting the screwdriver slip.

In the FUEL TANK, FUEL FILTER, AND ASSOCIATED PARTS diagram above, note the vent drain tube (Key 1) and vent tube (Key 5).

Disconnect the fuel line from the fuel filter.

Even though it is not necessary to remove the cover, toolbox and battery shield assembly, and battery tray, you might consider removing all three to have more room to maneuver the fuel tank to avoid scratching the paint.

Carefully remove the water temperature cable from the clips on the fuel tank.

In the FUEL TANK, FUEL FILTER, AND ASSOCIATED PARTS diagram above, note the four cap screws (Key 10).

Remove the two front cap screws and loosen the two back cap screws.

Wrap the fuel tank with a towel and secure with duct tape.

In the FUEL TANK, FUEL FILTER, AND ASSOCIATED PARTS diagram above, note the front bracket (Key 25).

Remove the front bracket and then the back cap screws.

Remove the fuel tank by rotating the fuel tank opening towards the right side of the tractor away from the hydraulic lines.

Reverse the above steps to install the fuel tank.
