I know I'll get hammer by the 'original police' but just wondering if anyone has ever tried to install an electronic ignition on a model H ? Is it even possible and is it more reliable and more maintenance free than a magneto ?

First is your H elec start if it is you can go electronic ing. but the mag in good conduction will work and be a lot cheeper

No not electric start. Will have lights and battery tho... Had Wico 'C' mag rebuilt once a few years back. Ran good last fall when I parked it. Started it a few days ago but had to pull it. Ran rough so I let it warm up then checked tappet clearance. It was only a few thousand off and timing is on. Tried to restart it and now don't have any spark ! Points are ok not sure about condenser. Not sure how to check that... stumped !

They way it sounds your impulse spring is weak or broken,,it's purpose is to load up energy and let the mag fling loose at a low cranking rpm,,helping the "flywheel start" go better...you should be able to hear it click as you crank...I like the dependability of a regular ignition myself,,if a electronic set up fails,,, you won't go to the corner parts store for help.. you will be dead in the water till a new set is shipped to you...

It'll work if you have a distributor....they have kits for Delco distributors...suppose you could put a late model unit on the tractor...Delco distributors on letter tractors and or 50-60-70 should fit it....
