Tires on a 1950 B

Dad's '47 B had Firestones with two different lengths of lugs that always connected into another lug near the center of the tread. I've hear they rode smooth on hard roads but didn't always pull the best in the field.

I have a chance to get new 11.2-38 Firestones for $300 or new American Farmer R-1's for $250. Which would you go with?
