Looking at a 327 baler - Anything to look for?

I am going to look at a 327 baler this week. Know the owner so know how it was taken care of. Always been shed kept. He hasn't used it in 3 years. Last used to make straw bales. Pictures of it look real nice. His Father bought it new in the late 80's. He had the knotters gone through 5 years ago but then quit doing any hay or straw. I know to check out the bale chute but beyond that, anything to look for? He does have a tractor he can hook it to and run it for me.

Check the drive chains as if they break it will knock it out of timing and destroy the feed fingers and a lot more.

Check the wrist pin on the plunger for wear as well as it is locked into position.

Raise the knotter frames up and look where the bill hook rotates and see if there is a groove worn into the frame (the groove is worn from the wheel on the bill hook as it rotates). Check and see how sloppy the tucker fingers are.

At TXjim stated, check the plunger for wear in the bale case. Speaking of bale case, make sure that it is not worn out as if it is it will flex when the plunger compresses the hay and will change the timing of the knotters.

The 327 is nothing more than a 336 with a lighter drive line. Maybe a few other minor changes, but the backbone is still a 336.

Thanks Hay Maker. This will be my first baler purchase. Having made lots of hay for/with other people I know enough to be dangerous but not enough to be entirely educated on them!
