My power steering system on my JD720D is leaking out the bottom, so I am in the process of tearing it down to replace the seals. Currently I am having a problem with loosening the steering gear. I have had no luck hitting from the bottom like the manual says to.
My question is; if I jack up the front end so the wheels are off the ground, and if I then remove all the bolts that tie the pedestal to the steering cylinder to the spindle quill, and then if I hit the spindle from the top with a sledge hammer, will this jar the gear loose?
