John Deere 6030

I will be watching a rough 6030 coming up for auction in the near future. I was thinking these have a pretty good demand in most any condition. I have not found out yet if its a runner or not. Looks to be complete. What are their weak points that I need to look for? Thx

The word rough could mean many different things.I have seen some nice ones with cab bring $20K or less.I don't buy rough ones as by time you get them in shape you are in the hole and you still know what they were to start with.

You need to check the trans to make sure that park is not broke out. It is quite common as these things had a real weak park pawl setup and it's not repairable without swapping out the entire trans case.

I'm looking at a 6030 that is supposed to have park broke out. Are the parts even available to fix this? It
sounds like major and expensive fix.

Like said, the main part you need is a new trans case. Talking high part and labor to swap out all the gears (probably more than the tractor is worth). What happens is there are two ears that are cast to the inside of the case that hold a rod that the park pawl pivots on. If somone slams it into park while the tractor is rolling, it rips those ears right out of the case. Thus no fix that I know of other than a trans case swap. They are hard to find and pricey if you find one. You best get a heck of a deal on the tractor.

My interest in it is to part out or resell. As a hobby, I buy old mostly dead tractors and either wake them up or part them out. Don't like to see them go to the scrapper. My meaning on rough is sheetmetal beat up, missing some side panels, seat shot, gauges ???, tires hold air, etc. supposed to fire right up and run good. Construction company has had it for years to pull trailers around at large job sites but has not used it in a few years. They have started and ran it regularly tho.

For sheet metal, if the hood is nice, that would be a plus.
