New Gen JD sickle mower

I was over looking at some farm equipment at a widow that is a long time family friend of my dad's. The fellow that rents the land is supposedly trying to help her sell stuff. He's a jockey of stuff, and is buying the very original 3020 her husband owned. she said he wanted it, so it's his. I don't know what he paid for it but I told her I hope he gave her at least $7500 for it. It's really nice original, new rear tires, new fuel system, frame/nose weights. Anyway, it has this bracket for a pto driven sickle mower that fits on it. I don't think her renter that bought the tractor has any idea that it will fit the bracket on the tractor. The complete sickle sets in the corner, and is fully complete and in very nice shape. Does it have any value to it? Not much of a JD guy, but can't say I've ever seen one around here. I told her that if he just wants the tractor to be sure to take that mount off for the sickle, or the sickle and associated stuff would probably be kind of useless. I wish I could have gotten a pic of the sickle mower itself, but it was stashed in a corner behind some stuf, and it was dark in there, so I just couldn't get a good picture of it. So does this unit as a complete piece in good shape have any value to where she could sell it? Or should I just tell her to give it to her renter that bought the tractor? She thinks he's trying to help her out, which maybe he is, but I hope he's not trying to help himself out with the stuff he wants, as she has no idea what any of it is worth.
Thanks
Ross

That is the bracket for a number 10 mower and the collectors still covet those mowers. A sharp original mower complete will bring 400-500 dollars around here. They were offered while Deere was still making the two cylinder tractors albeit the mounts and drive are different.

Bob, my wife sent you an email. I have a brand new one here that I bought at a dealer sale years ago. I will need to double check that I have all the pieces as it was never assembled. Tom

Thanks NY986. It is an interesting mower, never seen one before. Never knew what you would hook to the front PTO shaft on one of the New Gen JD tractors, now I know, it's a slick set up.

You should advise owner that the brackets should be removed from the tractor and sold with the mower. The mower is useless without them and have no other function on the tractor. BTDT.

And to add to this there are a couple different mounting brackets 1 for the taller Waterloo tractors and 1 for the lower Dubuque.. We have been using 50 and 250 side mount mowers since the 1960's..we keep one one a 3020 year around just for trim mowing, they were offered in 6-7 and 9ft lengths..

Yes, for the mower to be worth the 400-500 dollars I mentioned previously all the pieces need to be with it. I've seen 10's and 50's sitting by themselves at auction and they bring half or less if not complete.

Be sure to get the drive pulley off of the front pto when the bracket comes off.

Guess I didn't look up under there. I just figured that the little short driveshaft hooked to the mower just snapped right onto that front pto shaft? Then from there is has a pulley with a belt that goes to another pulley that runs the gearbox/wobble box whatever you want to call it.

Thanks Goerge, that's what I was thinking of as well. As long as the bracket is removed from the tractor, the mower set up would be complete. The widow's husband was very particular about his equipment, and kept everything together and in very good condition. Worked for New Holland, knew everything about anything on every older NH baler.

Tim, wish I would have paid more attention to how tall the bar was on it. It was folded up, and was taller than me, seems like by quite a bit, so must be a 7' or 9'.

7 is the most common,I have used a 9 but you need to be careful it's easy to bend them.,7
