520 hydraulics

When we purchased our uncles 520 it didn't have any fluid in power trol. After filling it, it whines when trying to use hydraulics. I am thinking it has air in the system as it worked the last time I used it before he passes away. I don't want to take it to the local mechanic even though they don't charge much.

Whines from the pump, powertrol valving or the drivers seat where they don't want to open their wallet?

Did you use the proper oil. Every tractor has worked before it didn't work? without fluid you probably have all sorts of deposit and or rust in the unit. If this tractor sat out...the filler is in line for rain fall. From your observation sounds like a serious problem. That fluid has to be maintained and as I recall from my 4 previous 520's there was not a filter to the control box. This is why John Deere preached so much about maintainence and regular fluid changes. Hope you didn't pay much as these are high dollar and require a competenant repairman which will be hard to find on a 60 year old tractor.....
